Walter Simpson

Wilton Simpson is currently serving as the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture since 2023. Before his current role, he served in the Florida Senate from 2012 to 2022, representing various districts around Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco Counties. During his time in the Senate, he held leadership positions including Senate President from 2020 to 2022 and Majority Leader from 2016 to 2018.

Simpson is a fifth-generation Floridian with deep roots in agriculture, having owned and managed a large-scale egg-laying operation. He earned an associate degree from Pasco-Hernando State College.

As Commissioner of Agriculture, he oversees the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).

Simpson lives in Trilby, Florida with his wife, Kathy. They have a son and a daughter, and he is a grandfather to two granddaughters. He is also involved in philanthropic work in his community.
